Reader review: I loved The Kids of the Polk Street School series as a young girl in the late 80's. I still think they are excellent children's literature. Patricia Reilly Giff knows how to write a story from a child's point of view, while instilling the right message. This particular book deals with December. The stories of Hanukkah and Christmas are simply explained (I wish public schools were still allowed to teach the important history behind these holidays). An underlying theme is kindness.
